Habitat Heartland Celebrates 30 Years

Updated: Apr 22

Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario was established in 1993 as Habitat for Humanity London and expanded to Oxford Middlesex and Elgin counties in 2012, then into Stratford-Perth in 2014 and finally into Brant-Norfolk in 2021. We are a non-profit, non-denominational, charitable housing organization.

Collage of Habitat homeowners and their families

We engage a wide network of partners—including individuals, community groups, small businesses, trades, foundations, and large corporations—to build safe, affordable homes for lower-income families. 100% of the revenue from our eight ReStores supports the administrative costs of Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario.

Thanks to the commitment of our volunteers, donors, and community partners, we have constructed 132 homes across our service areas, building strength, stability, and independence in the lives of those we assist

  • 1993 – Incorporated as a Habitat for Humanity affiliate in London, Ontario.

  • 1995 – The first London ReStore opened in May, occupying 3,300 sq ft of retail space in the city’s East end.

  • 2001 – The London ReStore moved its entire operations into 10,000 sq ft of combined retail, warehouse, and office space.

  • 2011 – A second London ReStore was opened in a more central location – Adelaide St. South.

  • 2012 – London East moved again into a renovated 18,000 sq ft building with combined space as Habitat Heartland’s Headquarters – Pacific Court.

  • 2013 – The Woodstock ReStore opened its doors to Oxford County – our first ReStore location outside of London.

  • 2014 – Heartland Ontario assumed operations of the Stratford ReStore with the addition of Habitat Stratford-Perth.

  • 2015 – To better serve Elgin County, the St. Thomas ReStore opened for business.

  • 2020 – A third ReStore location opened in London and serves as the current Habitat Heartland Headquarters – Wonderland Rd. North.

  • 2021 – Heartland Ontario assumed operations of both Brantford and Simcoe ReStore locations following our amalgamation with Habitat Brant-Norfolk.

For over three decades, Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario has been building community in the regions we serve. Our mission remains clear and more important than ever. We invite you to join us this year, and in the years to come, as we continue to expand our efforts. Your involvement can help ensure that more families have the opportunity to build on a stable foundation. Together, we can do more than build homes.

The families who partner with Habitat Heartland deeply appreciate the support they receive. The security of a stable home empowers them with the independence needed to provide a better life. This transformative experience is not just about building homes but also about nurturing communities where every member can thrive. Your financial contributions, your voice in advocacy, and your time volunteering are pivotal. Each contribution you make goes to providing safe, affordable housing to more families in need. We invite you to make a difference today by donating, volunteering, or spreading the word about our mission.

About Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario

Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario is a charitable organization dedicated to building strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership. Serving the regions of London, Middlesex, Oxford, Elgin, Brant, Norfolk, and Perth, the organization works alongside volunteers, donors, and community partners to create safe and affordable housing for families in need. By providing a hand-up rather than a hand-out, Habitat empowers families to break the cycle of poverty through sustainable homeownership. In addition to building homes, Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario also operates ReStores, where donated new and gently used items, such as furniture, appliances, lighting fixtures, décor, building materials, tools, electronics and more, are sold to fund building projects and support local communities.
